Bevezető / Introduction

1981 februárjában hó lepte be a Vasfüggöny falait, s az   ínség már-már elviselhetetlenné válásakor furcsa manifesztáció vette kezdetét a dermesztő éjszakában. Egyesek új hősök sziluettjeit vélték kibontakozni a furcsa lidércfényben. Totocs, Prikuliku, Tarzan, Spaceman, ORI28, BI44, Kolorano, s a többi hősök lassan felveszik alakjuk a Függönyön túli világban...

In February 1981, the Iron Curtain was covered with snow. In these hard days, beyond the Curtain, a strange manifestation began: newborn heroes came out from the marsh-fire. There were some, who could observe this unusual process. Totocs, Prikuliku, Spaceman, ORI 28 & BI 44, Kolorano, and all the other strange heroes took shape…

Magyarország a vasfüggöny mögött élte szürke hétköznapjait.

1981 – the world was divided and full of tensions. It is the last period of Cold War, but that time, it was not clear for everybody. The President of United States Jimmy Carter, and then Ronald Reagan, the General Secretary of the Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev was. The never-ending and incomprehensible Iraq-Iran war just began, in Roumania rationing, in Poland martial law was declared. In Hungary, the price of fuel and and food was getting higher and higher.

We, the Gaspar brothers feeled and understood nearly nothing from it. On one hand, in a non democratic country the news are manipulated, on the other hand, we did’nt give a shit for the politics. We were 12, 9, 7, and 3 years old boys, so we usually catched butterflies, or wondered in the nearly bushes.

For Hungary these were the colourless days beyond the Iron Curtain. Just for the young readers: there was NOT PC., internet, and in the most houses not a single telephone. About one and half TV programmes, but not on Mondays,(on Mondays, there was NOT tv broadcasting,) on weekdays such as boring programmes as „Law Cases” or musical series from East-Germany.

On Saturdays, it was really refreshing to watch French romantic movies about swordsmen. After these Jean Marais-movies, we were in hurry to get branches from the bushes, and we could cross „swords” with each other. When we did not play swordsmen, or go to the movie, we usually lied on the floor, and drew. That’s how our comics –magazine, the Josipros was born.

(As for me), the love of the comics-books started with the „Roy Bean episode” of the classic Lucky Luke series. Our dad bring it to us, maybe returning from a teacher-conference situated in Szeged, or Pécs. We all read it through several times, and at the end, we knew it by heart.

That time, in Hungary, it was notso popular to publish comics magazines. There was the „Mosaik” from East-Germany, one single page per week in the juvenile magazine „Pajtás”, and 4-6 pages per week in the classic crossword riddle magazine, named „Füles”. In „Füles”, we could find the the works of the few Hungarian classics, such as Ernő Zórád, Pál Korcsmáros, AttilaFazekas. We cut these pages out, coloured them, and with various glues and fixes, shaped them into comics magazines of our own making.

Later – collected from various French comics series – the legendary „Kockás” started, but it is not an overstatement, that at the begining of 1981, Josipros was presumably the only Hungarian comics magazine.

The eponym of the Josipros (pronunciation: joʃiproʃ) Josip Broz Tito, the former leader of the former Yugoslavia, the communist-partisan-hero was. Of course, it doesn’t mean that our magazine became a titoist propaganda-material. As a matter of fact, the old partisan died nearly a half year earlier, in 1980, and - according to Wikipedia - his burial ceremony was the largest state funeral in history.

So, those days, his name was on everybody’s lips. That is how our magazine got its name, from a dead communist. As for me, i didn’t have a clue about this chap.

In short, we were lying, drawing, changing the fold A3 sheets, and step by step, the first, and then the monthly one magazine was born. If we finished, we gave it to our mom, who sewed together the pages with red thread.

The red thread, it was so important.
